I was first introduced to ceramics in architecture school, where I was inspired to use clay to express form and structure. While traveling through Scandinavia, I was inspired by the way light and shadow was used in their architecture to generate rhythms throughout a space. I viscerally felt myself being pushed and pulled through their structures. Nordic minimalism resonates with me because of how it removes all that is non-essential and leaves simple and bold forms with a clear articulation of thought and purpose. In my functional work, I construct strong forms with refined lines to reveal a pure expression of intent. In my sculptural work, I aspire to offer the viewer an inhabitable structure, where a fluid movement draws one in and provides a sense of place.
