SPCS Call for Board Members NOW OPEN

Applications to join Seward Park Clay Studio Board of Directors

Overview of SPCS

The mission of Seward Park Clay Studio (SPCS) is to promote the growth of the ceramic arts.  Located in a beautiful park along Lake Washington, SPCS has been a vital element in the Northwest’s visual arts community since 1970. We offer community classes in wheel throwing and hand building for adults and children, in both low-fire and high-fire temperature ranges.
We serve over 9000 people every year through our classes, workshops, annual sales and collaborative shows with local galleries. Our dedicated teachers, students, emerging and seasoned artists, and a committed staff all work together to create an environment that nurtures creativity.

Role Description

SPCS is seeking applicants to serve on our board of directors. The all-volunteer board of directors is the governing body for SPCS. It is a working and involved board, committed to providing mission-based leadership and strategic guidance. Board members support the organization with hands-on efforts, practical contributions, expertise as needed, engagement with the community in tangible ways, and fundraising and awareness campaigns. The board strives to reflect the composition of the SPCS community.  It is made up of students, resident artists and non-affiliated community members.

Role Qualifications

While we welcome individuals with past board experience, the most valuable qualification is that board members have realistic visions for the continued growth and empowerment of SPCS. The current board is focused on community engagement and inclusion and is committed to increased outreach. As such, we’re looking for diverse perspectives from individuals willing to work to expand the mission of SPCS and empower creativity through ceramic arts for generations to come.
We are currently seeking applicants who complement and expand the skills and perspectives of the existing board and who can contribute to our ability to govern SPCS with integrity and purpose. We are especially seeking applicants with experience in finance. Fidelity to our commitment to community engagement and service and inclusivity means that individuals from underrepresented communities are especially encouraged to apply.

Board members may serve on committees and volunteer at events, as needed.

Board members must adhere to all legal requirements and regulations applicable to non-profit organizations. This includes understanding their fiduciary duties, avoiding conflicts of interest both within the studio and with outside vendors, and ensuring transparency in financial matters.
